Discount Fare

A discounted fare of $1.00 ($1.25 on Express routes) is available on Youth, Senior and Disabled riders. Seniors (age 65 or older) should be prepared to show proof of age with a government-issued ID card with birthdate or with a GoTriangle-issued discount card. Youth (ages 6-18) should be prepared to show proof of age with a government-issued ID card, middle or high school ID card, or transit agency-issued discount ID card. Customers with disabilities should be prepared to show one of the following forms of identification:

 

How to Obtain a 65 & Older Discount ID Card
Riders who wish to obtain a 65 & Older Discount ID Card can do so at the Regional Transit Center (RTC) during the following hours:

Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 6:30pm
Complete the 65 & Older ID Application pdf and bring it to the Regional Transit Center (RTC) during the aformentioned hours. A customer service representative will take your picture and process your application. ID Cards typically take one business day to produce. Please tell the customer service representative whether you would like to pick up your ID card at the RTC or if you would like it to be mailed to your home address.

How to Obtain a Youth Discount ID Card
Riders who wish to obtain a Youth Discount ID Card can do so at the Regional Transit Center (RTC) during the following hours:

Regional Transit Center (RTC) - Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 6:30pm
Durham Transit Station - Monday - Friday: 8:30am-11am and 12:30-4:30pm. You must bring proof of age.
Application coming soon. Please bring proof of age and/or proof of school enrollment.

How to Obtain Disability Discount ID Card
Riders who wish to oobtain Disability Discount ID Card can do so at the Regional Transit Center (RTC) during the following hours:

*Medicaid cards are not acceptable proof of eligibility for the half-price fare.

 

Shipping Information

GoTriangle charges a $1.00 shipping and handling fee per transaction. Our Customer Service Representatives will receive immediate notice of your purchase, and will process and mail your pass(es) within one business day.

Lost or stolen passes will not be replaced.

Please Note: If you purchase your pass(es) using an eCheck, then GoTriangle will not ship your pass(es) until the eCheck has cleared, which typically takes from 3 to 5 business days.

Transfers

Transfers will NOT be issued to riders transferring between GoTriangle, GoCary, GoRaleigh, and GoDurham buses. If you transfer between systems save money by purchasing a regional day pass or 31-day pass.

While day pass users do not need to worry about transfers, those paying the regular fare who plan to use more than one bus will need a transfer. Here's how to use them:

As you board your first GoTriangle bus or Shuttle, request a transfer from the driver as you pay your fare.
When you board a second GoTriangle bus at the Regional Transit Center, GoRaleigh Station, or another location, insert your transfer into the fare box on the second bus.
Ask your driver for assistance if you have any questions about transfers.

 

Purchasing Passes at the RTC

Cash (no bills over $20, please), credit/debit cards, money orders, and cashier's checks are acceptable forms of payment when purchasing passes inside at the Regional Transit Center service desk. No personal checks are accepted. Note that cash or a pass is required to board the bus. All pass sales are final and are non-refundable. Lost, stolen, or altered passes will not be replaced.

 

Using the Fare Box

Paying Cash:
Please be sure to have youro fare ready when boarding the bus. If you are paying your fare in cash please enter your coins in the Coin Insertion Cup one at a time, or feed flat, unfolded bills into the Bill Insertion Slot. The following denominations can be inserted into the fare box: pennies, nickels, dimes, quartesrs, 50-cent coins, 1-dollar coins, 1-dollar bills, and 5-dollar bills.

The Passenger Display will display the amount entered. Damaged / rejected coins will go to the Coin Return Cup and the bus operator will notify you. If change is due back, then the fare box will print out a "change" card which can be used towards your fare the next time you ride the bus.

Requesting a Regional Day Pass:
Ask the bus operator to issue a regional day pass before paying the fare. Insert your coins or bills as stated in the previous paragraph.

Using Your Pass:
If you purchased a 31-day pass or bundle of day passes at the Regional Transit Center, and it is the first time that the pass is being used, then insert the pass in the Electronic Fare Card slot (located at the top of the fare box) to activate the pass. If  the pass has already been used once, then swipe the activated card through the Swipe Reader in the direction of the arrow with the magnetic strip facing you.
