July 7, 2026 – GoTriangle just completed a banner year for the Triangle region’s public transit agency. It was a year of firsts, including the agency’s first completed major transit station and the introduction of 15-minute frequency regional bus service. It was also a year of continued improvements in transit usage, ridership, and partnerships.
“It’s been a year full of significant effort and accomplishment,” said President/CEO Dr. Brian Smith. “The positive outcomes and steps forward have required dedication, teamwork, and collaboration both within GoTriangle and working closely with federal, state, regional, and local partners.”
Here are just some of the many GoTriangle accomplishments during Fiscal Year 2026:
- Completed three successful rounds of service changes that resulted in a 33 percent increase in transit service, the most added in a single year since 1994
- Celebrated the grand opening of the award-winning, 39,000-square-foot Raleigh Union Station Bus Facility (RUS Bus) ahead of schedule and within budget
- Supported strong ridership growth, with average weekday boardings in April 2026 up more than 30 percent compared to April 2025.
- Deployed North Carolina’s first regional 15-minute frequency bus route, providing enhanced connections between Durham and Chapel Hill, including the University of North Carolina, Duke University, downtown areas, and major medical facilities
- Established new GoPass partnerships, including with North Carolina Central University, allowing students, faculty, and staff to ride regional transit for free
- Kicked off a Regional Bus Blueprint study that is evaluating GoTriangle’s service area and exploring opportunities for future regional transit infrastructure and service upgrades
