Cawley, Huang and McMahon appointed to GoTriangle Board of Trustees

GoTriangle is pleased to announce the appointments of Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley, Cary Town Council Member Bella Huang, and Chapel Hill Council Member Wes McMahon to the transit agency’s Board of Trustees. Cawley was appointed to represent Wake County; Huang, the Town of Cary; and McMahon, the Town of Chapel Hill. McMahon was sworn in during the Board’s December 17th meeting while Huang and Cawley will take the oath of office in January.

Cawley fills a seat that was most recently held by Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones. Huang fills a seat previously held by Cary Council Member Jennifer Robinson. McMahon takes over a seat that was previously held by former Chapel Hill Council Member Michael Parker.

“Although we lost three long-term members of our Board who were passionate about GoTriangle and our mission, we are pleased to welcome three new board members who will bring new ideas and perspectives,” said Board Chair Mary-Ann Baldwin. “We welcome them and we’re excited to work together on expanding regional transit and to promote public transportation throughout the region.”

Cawley has served on the Morrisville Town Council since 2013, and as mayor since 2017. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and retired from a finance position in pharmaceutical research. Cawley is also a long-time member of Capital Area Friends of Transit and has served on the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) Executive Board for the past eight years.

Huang is a small business owner who is the co-founder of the Margin of Victory Empowerment (MOVE) NC Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to fostering civic engagement by connecting young people with civic leaders. She also co-founded the NC Asian-Americans Alliance, which works to bridge the Asian community with the broader NC communities through advocacy, cultural engagement, and public service. With a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and an MBA, Huang brings a data-driven and people-centered perspective to public service.

McMahon has served on the Chapel Hill Planning Board since 2022 and was elected to the Town Council in November 2025. He is an advocate for parks and greenways, as well as for safe walks to schools. McMahon is a refugee settlement professional.

“Our mission at GoTriangle is to connect people and the region with high-quality transit, and it’s wonderful to have representatives who have been entrusted to help guide and govern the work of achieving this mission,” said GoTriangle President & CEO Dr. Brian Smith. “The appointments of Mayor Cawley, Council Member Huang, and Council Member McMahon will continue to make our leadership strong and energized as we continue to serve the region.”
