GoTriangle Improving Key Regional Routes And Introducing Route 705 In March

In March, GoTriangle is making changes to service hours, frequency, and the alignment of some routes as well as the addition of one new route. These changes will expand service to better connect people and the region with high-quality transit throughout the Research Triangle region.

The March service changes include doubling the frequency of a key route between Raleigh and the Regional Transit Center (RTC), improving the alignment of key routes in both Morrisville and Durham (with emphasis on providing regional transit access to North Carolina Central University and Durham Technical Community College), as well as offering a brand-new route to improve direct access between Durham and Research Triangle Park (RTP).

“These changes reflect the holistic approach we take as a transit agency by diligently looking at ways to increase the frequency of current routes, make improvements where necessary to other ones, and by introducing new service offerings that will benefit the public,” said Jay Heikes, Transit Service Planning Manager at GoTriangle. “We could not have made these changes without the engagement and feedback of the public, our riders, our agency partners, and our bus Operators.”

Starting March 15th, Route 310 will be realigned to serve the high-demand shopping center that includes the Walmart off Shiloh Glenn Dr. in Morrisville. Two stop pairs in Perimeter Park will be removed but can still be accessed using the Morrisville Smart Shuttle. Route 100 and RDU shuttle will continue to serve the stop pair at Slater Rd. and Carrington Mill Blvd.

Route 100, which runs between Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina State University and the Regional Transit Center (RTC), will increase its frequency and service hours. Weekday service will now operate every 15 minutes from 6am - 7pm, consistent with GoTriangle's mission and vision to expand frequent service throughout the region. There are no changes to the route’s alignment or stops. Connections to Hub RTP and Boxyard will be available every 15 minutes on Routes 705 and 800.  In general, this service improvement will make weekday regional trips between Durham and Raleigh easier by doubling service between Durham Station and the RTC through the introduction of Route 705 and doubling service between the RTC and Raleigh with 15-minute frequency on Route 100. These changes will reduce wait times and increase trip flexibility.

Also starting March 15th, Route 700 will increase its service hours and will be realigned to provide regional transit access to North Carolina Central University (NCCU), Durham Technical Community College (Durham Tech), and communities along Ellis Rd. and Miami Blvd. Two stop pairs along Cornwallis Rd. will be removed to bring new service to Ellis Rd. and Miami Blvd. but can be accessed using RTP Connect.

Route 705 is a new route that will provide direct access between Durham and Research Triangle Park, including Hub RTP and Boxyard RTP, with stops along T.W. Alexander Dr. and NC 54. This route will provide a faster option to support transfers at Durham Station and the Regional Transit Center (RTC). This route will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays from 6am-7pm.

The changes to Route 700 and the introduction of Route 705 will not only connect new destinations to the regional network but will provide more trip flexibility to those making the full trip between Durham Station and the RTC. For Route 700, riders should note that in order for the route to connect to the new destinations, an average of 10 minutes will be added to the trip time. The new Route 705 will have a similar trip time to the current Route 700, so for those looking to make the full trip between Durham Station and the RTC, Route 705 will be the quicker option. Additionally, with the introduction of the new route, there will now be double the number of weekday trips between the two transit stations, with a bus leaving the RTC for Durham Station every 15 minutes. With the introduction of two routes in this corridor, riders should be careful to board the correct bus for their destination if looking to connect to destinations along the route.
