Charbonneau currently serves as the Deputy Secretary of Communications for the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he oversees marketing, communications, media relations and public education programs.

“This is an exciting time for our rapidly growing region and I am thrilled to be joining the GoTriangle team to help build awareness within our community about current and future travel options,” said Charbonneau.  “I’m eager to share the many stories of all that GoTriangle and partner transit agencies are doing to reduce congestion, improve connectivity and enhance the quality of life for Triangle residents.”

Before joining the NCDOT, Charbonneau served as the Director of Public Relations for the Wake County Public School System.  He began his career as a journalist and spent more than eight years working as a reporter for WRAL News in Raleigh.  Prior to that, he covered military and coastal issues for WNCT-TV in Greenville, where he was also a member of the investigative reporting team.

During his journalism career Charbonneau earned two regional Emmy awards, a national Emmy award nomination and an award from the Associated Press. He has a Bachelor’s degree from N.C. State University in Mass Communication and a Master’s of Science from N.C. State in Communication, with a focus in Public Relations.

He joins GoTriangle on May 16th.

GoTriangle improves the region’s quality of life by connecting people and places with reliable, safe, and easy-to-use travel choices that reduce congestion and energy use, save money, and promote sustainability, healthier lifestyles, and a more environmentally responsible community.
