This weekend, when thousands of Triangle area supporters gather to celebrate survivors, honor those who have lost their battle and run or walk to raise funds and awareness to find a cure for breast cancer, GoTriangle employees will be there to help get them to the starting line.
For the 7th year, GoTriangle will provide buses and staff to support the Susan G. Komen Triangle Race for the Cure.
“Our team is honored to help with this great event and important cause," said Tellis Chandler, Interim Bus Operations Director. “The bus operators volunteer for extra shifts to support the fight for a cure and as another way to connect with the community that we serve every day."
The event is so popular with employees, GoTriangle has to hold a drawing each year to select those who will help shuttle survivors and supporters in and out on five donated buses.
Robin Leonard who has been GoTriangle's project manager for the Komen Race for several years said, "I have a close friend of mine who passed away from breast cancer. I am involved in the Race for the Cure for her. I also love to help people, helping people is who I am. I love supporting this worthy cause.”
Others donating their time this year include Miguel Benitez, Timothy Holmes, Cheryl Hester, Samuel Tatum, Kenneth Richardson and Samuel Whitney.
There is a new location for this year’s race, it will be held at the Research Triangle Park. The 5K competitive race begins at 7 A.M. with the Recreational 5K and one mile event at 9 A.M. The start and finish lines will be at The Frontier, 800 Park Offices Drive. Buses will operate from 6:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
