Going halfway around the world may seem daunting, but it sure is easier when you’re doing it as a team.
Eighty-three Triangle area commuters combined for more than 16,000 tracked miles during this year’s Around the World Challenge – enough miles to take someone halfway around the world. In total, 16,011.15 smart commuting miles were tallied via bike, bus, carpool, eScooter, vanpool and even by foot during the annual Around the World Challenge, hosted by GoTriangle and its transit partners.
The Around the World Challenge encourages sustainable travel – and acknowledges the impacts that our travels have on the environment. After all, a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
“What a great way to celebrate Earth Day week by showing the collective power of smart commuting,” said Kim Johnson, Sustainable Travel Services Manager at GoTriangle. “We are so excited that we had more participants involved in the Around the World Challenge this year. We look forward to seeing that number grow next year as we all continue to do our part.”
