The financial picture for the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (D-O LRT) Project has improved.  During a financial update at the January 4th work session, the GoTriangle Board of Trustees learned that existing transit revenues are projected to have the capacity to pay for the 17.7 mile, 18-station project without requiring additional local sources of funding. 

Federal Transit Administration Adds NC Central University Station To Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project

The Federal Transit Administration has officially approved adding a station at North Carolina Central University as part of the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project. The FTA’s action, known as the Amended Record of Decision follows a Supplemental Environmental Assessment and 30-day public comment period on the proposed extension.

GoTriangle Sells Land to GoCary to Build Bus Operations Center, Furthers Commitment to Collaborative Support of New Transit Projects and Services

GoTriangle’s Board of Trustees announced today the sale of a nearly 9-acre tract of land to the Town of Cary. The Town will build a new bus operations and maintenance center on the site in support of GoCary which, in collaboration with GoRaleigh and GoTriangle, is working to grow its services as part of a commitment to tripling existing bus service under the Wake County Transit Plan.

As shoppers rush to finish their lists, GoTriangle is urging people to consider transit as an alternative to the stress of driving and hunting for a parking space.

GoTriangle routes provide weekday and weekend service to popular shopping destinations.  Route 800 serves The Streets at Southpoint, while Route 400 serves Patterson Place in Durham and Eastgate Shopping Center and University Place in Chapel Hill. 

GoTogether: Research Triangle High School Finds Partner in Transit

With students from over 11 counties, the Research Triangle High School had to get creative with transportation. Running their own bus service wasn't feasible so they partnered with GoTriangle to get free GoPasses for employees and students.

Pamela Blizzard, the Managing Director of RTHS, says "We offer GoPasses to any and all employees and students to encourage them to ride the buses here instead of being one of the other cars out on I-40."

Duke University and Health Care System Reaffirm Continued Support for the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project

Because we have received numerous media inquiries this week about this topic we want to share the following:

GoTriangle received a letter from Duke University President Richard Brodhead on Friday, December 2nd reaffirming the University and Duke University Health System's continued support for the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project.

The letter states that Duke looks forward to continued discussion with GoTriangle about the alignment of the light rail line near Duke Hospital.

Clarification on Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project Investment

In response to a number of follow-up questions, GoTriangle would like to clarify some information related to the presentation to the Orange County Assembly of Governments on Thursday November 17: Durham and Orange counties are being asked to provide non-binding letters of intent to work with GoTriangle and other community partners to identify funds to complete the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (D-O LRT) Project.

GoTriangle Excited to Work with Wake County Communities on Robust Transit Network

On Tuesday, November 8, according to unofficial results, Wake County voters approved a half-cent sales tax transit referendum, which will be dedicated to help fund significant public transportation improvements identified in the Wake County Transit Plan (the vote is expected to be officially certified around November 18). 

As Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday GoTriangle Encourages All Commuters to be Safe

As we turn our clocks back Sunday, and see fewer hours of sunlight during the day, GoTriangle urges all commuters to be extra cautious and safe whether you are driving, waiting for a bus, walking or biking.

“Safety is always our top priority and as more people travel to and from work and school in the dark this time of year, we urge everyone to slow down and be aware of your surroundings. Drivers, walkers, bikers and people waiting at transit stops can all do their part to help keep everyone safe," said GoTriangle General Manager Jeff Mann.
