Public Hearings on Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project

Public hearings are coming up on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (D-O LRT) Project.  

The public hearings follow last month’s release of the DEIS.  The document reports on the environmental, transportation, social, and economic impacts associated with the transportation improvements in the Durham-Orange (D-O) Corridor, and the proposed 17-mile light rail project between Chapel Hill and Durham.

GoSmart Wins National Commuting Award

What you can do with a parking space is amazing. And this year, the Association for Commuter Transportation has recognized GoSmart with a national award for public sector marketing and creativity in promoting different uses for a parking space. The award was presented this week during ACT’s annual meeting in Baltimore.

GoSmart, managed by GoTriangle, is a Triangle-based resource agency that assists employers, employees and agencies with commuter resources using transit, vanpooling, teleworking, carpooling and biking.

As The Bus Stop Returns - New Plots and Characters Join Transit Soap Opera

The love story on the bus continues. Now that your favorite TV series are on summer hiatus, catch up on Season Two of the mini-series “As the Bus Stops.”

The first transit-centered soap opera, “As The Bus Stops,” uses classic themes such as love, betrayal, longing stares, the impossible choice between Right and Wrong, Questions and Unexpected Answers and because it all happens on the bus, the mini-series makes this newest GoTriangle video another creative approach to learning about transit.

Jeff Mann Named GoTriangle General Manager

The GoTriangle Board of Trustees today named Jeff Mann the agency’s next General Manager. 

Mann, currently a Deputy Secretary with the NC Department of Transportation, will begin work in late July.   

“GoTriangle is proud to welcome Jeff Mann, who is well-respected among transportation professionals across the country,” said GoTriangle Board Chair William V. “Bill” Bell. “We are confident that Jeff’s leadership skills will serve us well as we address our region’s mobility challenges.”

Three of the Triangle’s transit providers have new names.    

In a news conference earlier today, NC Secretary of Transportation Tony Tata, Raleigh Mayor Pro Tem John Odom and Durham Mayor and GoTriangle Board Chair William V. “Bill” Bell, unveiled GoRaleigh, GoDurham and GoTriangle.  The transit providers are part of a new family of services called GoTransit. 

Regional Transit Providers Expand Service to Mebane Provides Connection from the Triad to the Triangle

Commuters from the Triangle and the Triad will soon have expanded options for getting to work.  The new service provides connections from Guilford County into the Triangle and expanded service in Alamance County.  

In a first for the state, Triangle Transit is sharing a Park and Ride with PART– the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation.  The Park and Ride will be located at Cone Health MedCenter Mebane near the Tanger Outlets and will open on January 12, 2015.
